FLPN Members Meeting – Post separation property settlement: What does it mean and what is involved

When a couple separates, they may need to make arrangements to formally divide their property (assets and debts).  Michelle Alleman (Central Australian Women’s Legal Service) will be presenting on:

  • What is a property settlement
  • What are the steps in working out an appropriate division of property
  • What are the time limits for commencing proceedings in the Family Law Court for a property settlement
  • How to make a property settlement legally binding
  • Spousal maintenance
    Following this presentation, staff from the Family Relationships Centre (Relationships Australia) and NT Legal Aid Commission will then provide information on their property mediation services.
